Conversatorio abordó cambio climático y sequía en la provincia de Marga Marga

Abordar los desafíos que plantea el actual escenario de escasez hídrica fue el tema principal del conversatorio “Hablemos del Agua: cómo impacta el cambio climático y la sequía en la producción de agua potable”, en la provincia de Marga Marga. El encuentro, que se realizó en el teatro Municipal “Juan Bustos Ramírez”, fue organizado por Esval y el Centro Regional del Agua para Zonas Áridas y Semiáridas de América Latina y el Caribe (Cazalac).

En esta iniciativa, que contó con la presencia de autoridades, académicos y dirigentes sociales, se expuso el impacto de la desertificación y la prolongada sequía a nivel global, y particularmente en la Región de Valparaíso, junto con dar a conocer las acciones que se están realizando para garantizar el abastecimiento a la población.

“Tenemos un compromiso con las comunidades donde entregamos nuestro servicio, haciendo todos los esfuerzos e inversiones necesarias para asegurar la continuidad del suministro a nuestros 650 mil clientes en la región, y lo hemos logrado: hasta ahora, tras una década de sequía, ninguno de nuestros clientes ha sufrido un corte por falta de agua. El cambio climático nos afecta a todos, por ello, debemos trabajar en conjunto para enfrentarlo”, dijo el subgerente Zonal de Esval, Alejandro Salas.

Agregó que “mantener el abastecimiento en este contexto es una labor compleja. Desde el 2013 a la fecha, hemos destinado más de $30 mil millones para hacer frente a los efectos de la prolongada escasez hídrica a lo largo de nuestra región, y nuestro desafío es continuar robusteciendo y dando una mayor resiliencia a nuestros sistemas”.

El geógrafo y experto en cambio climático, Elir Rojas, quien además es consultor en Desertificación y Sequía del Programa de Naciones Unidas para el Desarrollo, y asesor de la comisión de Recursos Hídricos del Senado, planteó que “estos encuentros organizados por Esval, en conjunto con Cazalac, permiten reunir a diversos actores de la comunidad para tomar conciencia sobre la necesidad de una gestión eficiente del agua, junto con educar y generar un cambio cultural para enfrentar la sequía. Por ello, es muy valioso tener la instancia para conversar, reflexionar, y por qué no, debatir sobre el cambio climático y las acciones que estamos realizando para enfrentar esta realidad”.
